July’s heater has been TURNED ON! With a couple of 90+ heat days this past weekend, the Filamentous Algae has begun to surface again. Thanks to the Killearn Lakes Plantation action, it has been fantastic that it has taken this long in the year for the mid-lake floating islands to return. But the islands have returned (as was expected quite frankly given our shallow lake and warm water).
The good news is that the board is on top of this. The lake manager (Charlie) has already ordered the materials and plans to treat the lake within the next week or so. This should knock back the FA for another 4-5 weeks.
There are plans to conduct 2 more treatments following this next one, which should carry us through the summer and into the early to mid fall time-frame.
Many of the lakefront homeowners have worked to increase vegetation at the lake shore — Many Thanks!!! This is also helping to reduce nutrient flow into the lake.
If you have any questions, just let me know.
