Balancing all the interests
Lake Blue Heron’s environment is unique among the other community lakes. It is significantly more shallow on average and it receives a significant influx of land run-off. Both of these promote significant invasive plant and algae growth.
Charlie Messing, an experienced and expert lake water management engineer has said it the best. “The challenge is to balance the desire for visual beauty with the desire for biological health. Too much chemical injection will damage the fish and other water inhabitants, leading all the way up the food chain. Too little and the invasive plants will overrun the lake and create an unsightly space and equally threaten healthy wildlife growth.”
The GOAL of the Friends of Lake Blue Heron is to help manage the BALANCE of these mutually important needs — environmental beauty and environmental wildlife health.
